STORM RUNNER- HOME Challenge Crew AZAB Regular Crew Where Are We Now??? Blog

A Few Pictures of Our Adventure

Getting to the AZAB hasn't been easy, and apart from the efforts involved in getting the boat to rating we've had to enter two qualification passages.

In June 2006 Miles competed single handed in the Falmouth 500 race around Fastnet Rock but this only qualified the boat for the outward AZAB passage.

In late February Brian and Miles set off for a further 500 mile qualification trip down to the north of France, out beyond the Scillies and back to sunny Portsmouth.  Despite a favourable forecast, it was an exciting five day run with 50 knot winds at one point and a bit of an electrical fire!  On a positive note there were excellent crew relations throughout and Brian produced some mean curry.  We also had a visit from some dolphins..see below

The AZAB itself started on June 2nd 2007 from Falmouth- thanks Bri and Dolly I started out with an astonishing hangover from my last contact with humans the night before......I arrived in the Azores 10 days later.  Bri flew out to join me for the return leg in mid June and we crossed the line on Friday 29th June having completed 2500 ocean miles and.......ripping our mainsail in a 65 knot wind only 20 miles outside Falmouth!

It's not raining now Bri, you can take the hood down....

Dolphins at play...

The team hat...silly, but warm...
